LivingWriter Help and Support

To enable or disable the “Dark Mode”, go to livingwriter.com, log in, and then:

  1. Open a Story.
  2. Click the tab “Mode” in the upper left bar.
  3. You can then toggle from “Light Mode” or “Dark Mode”. Selecting the “Light Mode” automatically disables the “Dark Mode”.

To enable or disable the focus mode, go to livingwriter.com, log in, and then:

  1. Open a Story.
  2. Click the tab “Mode” in the upper left bar.
  3. You can then check or uncheck the “Focus Mode” option.
  4. When you choose to enable the “Focus Mode”, you can now start typing for at least 15 seconds to blur out the right and left sidebar.

To navigate the board, go to livingwriter.com, log in, and then:

  1. Open a Story.
  2. Click the on the “Board” button in the top left sidebar.
  3. Select the board you want to edit.

4. For outlines and chapters, the stacked effect indicates there is something underneath them.

5. Clicking the box allows you to edit the description of the outline.

6. You can also move the entire outline by hovering your mouse to the upper right corner, then click and drag to which location you want to move it to.

7. Double-clicking the outline’s top right corner gets you inside the outline, showing the chapters.

8. To change the view of the board from “Detailed” to “Simple”, click the “View” button in the upper right corner and then select the “Simple” view if you don’t want to see too much detail.

9. For the story elements board, it works very similar to the one for outlines and chapters, selecting the “Simple” view shows images of the elements.

To create chapters, subchapters and outlines, log in to livingwriter.com and then:

  1. Click the “New” option on the left sidebar to create a Chapter.
  2. On the drop-down, select “Chapter”.
  3. There will be a pop-up box where you can write the Title, Description, and Notes.

  1. Click the “New” option on the left sidebar to create a Subchapter
  2. On the drop-down, select “Subchapter”.
  3. There will be a pop-up box where you can write the Title, Description, and Notes.

  1. Click the “New” option on the left sidebar to create an Outline
  2. On the drop-down, select “Outline”.
  3. There will be a pop-up box where you can write the Title, Description, and Notes.

Another way to create chapters, subchapters, and outlines is, log in to livingwriter.com, and then:

  1. Open your Story.
  2. You can right-click anywhere on the left sidebar and it’ll show the options to create Outlines, Chapters, Subchapters.

To Import your manuscript, log in to livingwriter.com and then:

  1. In your word document, make sure to select the proper header tag.

2. In the Living Writer Editor’s screen select “Import Story”.

3. Choose the word doc file you want to import.

4. If you have selected the proper header tag in your word doc, it will automatically split into chapters, now click on “Import”.

5. Once imported, the highlighted header tags (h1/h2) will be split into chapters.

To add and edit story element pictures, log in to livingwriter.com and then:

  1. Open a story.
  2. In the left pane, click which story element you wish to add/edit the picture in.
  3. Then in the right pane, click the profile icon to open the file folder and locate the image you want to upload.

To add nicknames or alternate names to a story element, go to livingwriter.com, log in, and then:

  1. Open a story.
  2. Expand the “Story Element” option in the left pane.
  3. Select which story element you want to edit, then click the “Edit” option.

4. On the right pane, click on the “Nicknames” option, then you can add the nicknames in the box.

To share a Story, go to livingwriter.com, log in, and then:

  1. Open a Story.
  2. Click the “Story” tab.
  3. On the drop-down, select “Share Story”.

4. You can either copy the link or write in the email address of the person you want to share it with.

To export your manuscript, go to livingwriter.com, log in, open your story, then:

  1. Click the “Export” option in the main options tab.

2. On the drop-down, select “Export to Amazon Manuscript”, which allows you to select the most common trim size.

3. There is a wide variety of trim size options.

To export your story, go to livingwriter.com, log in, open your story, then:

  1. Click the “Export” option in the main options tab.

2. Select what type of document you want to save the story to (e.g. Amazon Manuscript, Word, or PDF).

  • “Export to Amazon Manuscript” allows you to select the most common trim size.

  • “Export to Word (.docx)” allows you to save it as a word document file with options to export the entire story or specific chapters.

  • “Export to PDF(.pdf)” allows you to save it as a pdf document file with options to export the entire story or specific chapters.
